Holiday Party Ideas
The holidays are the most anticipated time of the year for many people. From joyful music to delicious feasts, it’s no wonder many of us enjoy the holidays so much. If you are planning a holiday party, you are probably both excited and slightly terrified of trying to get all the details right. Keep some of these ideas in mind to ensure that your holiday party succeeds.
If you are going to be the host or hostess for a holiday party, you want to make sure that your guests’ needs are met. This includes making sure that they are well-fed. If your guests are staying over for the whole day, feed them all day instead of letting them starve until the big dinner. While snacks like chips and nuts can hold people over, don’t forget to feed your guests if they are over during lunchtime as well. Even simple sandwiches will keep them satisfied.
Consider creating a menu that your guests can read. A beautifully-done menu can also add to the overall décor. It can be as simple as printing out a menu on nice paper and putting it in a tasteful picture frame. You can even write out the menu on a chalkboard. You might even want to put out little signs indicating the names of each dish.
Part of what makes the holidays so special is the festive décor. You can keep things simple while still being festive and you might be amazed at what you can find at a discount store. Before you decide how to decorate you will first want to come up with a color scheme. While red and green tend to be associated with the holidays, you don’t need to limit yourself to those colors. You can also have a holiday party where everything is white, giving off the look of a winter wonderland.
Setting a theme for a holiday party can be extremely fun. For a winter wonderland party, you can ask the guests to wear white. For an ugly sweater party, instruct the guests to wear the most fun, festive, and tacky holiday sweater that they own. You can even take votes and give a prize to whoever wears the best ugly sweater. Other holiday party themes are July in Christmas (as opposed to Christmas in July), Santa’s Workshop, and the North Pole. These themes will add more fun to what can often be a rather traditional holiday party.
During the holidays, gift giving tends to be a given. But it can easily get expensive. If you are hosting a holiday party, consider making the gift exchange more budget friendly. This can be achieved a number of ways. Secret Santa and White Elephant are both fun and exciting ways to exchange gifts. Both games involve surprise gifts and who doesn’t love a surprise? Don’t forget to set a reasonable budget for people to follow.
If you are having a New Year’s Eve party, then have fun props for you and your guests to enjoy. These props will especially come in handy as you count down to midnight. Big glasses, crowns, hats, and noisemakers are just some of the props that your guests might love as they ring in the New Year.
Appropriate lighting can really make a party festive and plenty of candles can really dress up a dinner table. Invest in tea light candles, votive candles, tapered candles, or a little bit of everything. Or you can just use battery-powered candles.
Don’t forget to set the mood with music. Try to use a playlist that mixes both the old classic holiday songs with some of today’s top hits. This will appeal to both the old and young guests. If your guests are up for it, try playing some games like charades or two truths and a lie.
Last of all, get some takeout boxes so your guests can bring leftovers home. This will save your guests the trouble of having to wonder what they’ll eat the following day and you won’t have to store all the leftovers in your fridge.
